SPRING IS IN THE AIR!

Isn’t it great outside? Spring is in the air and the sun is warming everything up again. We can make good use of the energy the sun gives us. At Tapir Tapes, we try to do make optimal use of the sun as well. At a time when we know we have to take better care of our earth and look for sustainable, green or renewable energy sources, the obvious choice is to install solar panels!

Wattlab (Rotterdam) and Macrolux Benelux (Benthuizen) have combined their expertise and started up a project; How nice would it be, thought David Kester and Fred van den Tempel, if you could fully utilise all the surface areas of your building for solar panels? And then we’re not just talking about the roof, but all those square meters of exterior walls as well!

Together they devised a plan to attach fully assembled panels. Because that is where the challenge lies: in actually attaching the panels! Could we actually use tape to attach the panels in a quick and easy way? Our account manager Dimitri Schukkink is always in for a challenge, and went to work on finding a solution together with the Wattlab and Macrolux teams:

“Our starting point is cleaning. Because good adhesion always starts with a clean surface. We then tested various tapes and came to a conclusion. The tape we selected is easy to work with and cost-effective.”

Fred van den Tempel sees another important cost aspect: “Attaching the fully assembled panels to exterior walls using tape is relatively simple, which means the square meter price for this solution can be kept low.” 

“We think this application has a bright future. A solar panel the size of an A4 sheet of paper is already sufficient to charge a smart phone, for instance. Just imagine how much energy you can generate if you attach them to all the exterior walls of a building! In addition, by attaching solar panels, property owners can positively influence the EPC value.”

That feels good! With our tape solution, we can make a contribution to making green energy affordable. We hope that we will see many exterior walls fitted with Wattlab/Macrolux solar panels in the future. Because green energy is the future! Let the sun shine!
