Adhesion conditions of Tapes and Adhesives
A clean surface
For good adhesion, it is very important that the surfaces are as flat, dust-free and dry as possible. Always clean the surface using an isopropyl alcohol solution (50% isopropyl alcohol and 50% water). Tapir Tapes recommends the 3M VHB Cleaner, a ready-to-use isopropyl alcohol solution in a litre bottle.
Roughing a difficult surface
Some surfaces have a low surface tension and do not easily adhere to another surface. You can pre-treat these materials with a sheet of Scotch-Brite fine, with an adhesion-enhancing primer or a combination of the two. We will be happy to advise you.
The correct processing temperature
Finally, it is important to bring the materials to be bonded up to processing temperature. Bring materials stored outside to the processing area at least 24 hours in advance. This prevents condensation from forming under the connection. The connection often fails after a short or even a longer time. Please note: This risk is high, especially in the winter months!
