Who is the inventor of the original VELCRO® Brand products?
Many people wonder: who invented VELCRO® Brand Velcro? It all started with the fruit of the Great Burdock. A tiny seed, covered with hundreds of loops that cling by themselves to the microscopic hooks in fur, hair and clothing. Tangles were nothing more than a natural phenomenon and a mild annoyance, until one day in 1941, Swiss engineer George de Mestral discovered them while hunting with his dog in the Alps.
More than seventy years have passed since then, and that accidental discovery has set everything in motion.
The invention and the influence of VELCRO® Brand
Inspired by the Big Burdock, De Mestral developed the world's first Velcro closure. De Mestral initially planned to use VELCRO® Brand Velcro as a fastener for clothing. Today it is used in many different industries, from hospitals to your own garage and in the military. Although every VELCRO® Brand product is made for specific purposes, the basic principle remains the same. Just think: the original VELCRO® Brand solution that mounts your tablet to the wall works on the same principle as the products that NASA use in space to ensure that the dishes remain on the table.
MAINTENANCE OF VELCRO® BRAND PRODUCTS AND REMOVAL OF ADHESIVES
By properly maintaining and caring for your VELCRO® Brand products, they retain strength and grip and last longer. This is especially true for Velcro closures in clothes that are left uncovered for a longer period of time or are regularly washed and dried.
Cleaning of VELCRO® Brand hook tape
Over time, fluff and other debris can adhere to the hooks of the Velcro, resulting in less grip. Removing this dirt from the hooks is done in the same way as cleaning a hairbrush. Use a stiff brush or another piece of Velcro for this. This can take some effort; after all, the hooks of the Velcro are made to hold! Prevention is better than cure. Therefore, keep the hooks sealed at all times so that nothing can get caught on them, such as a rug or your hair. Always close the Velcro before washing.
Removal of adhesive residues from VELCRO® Brand self-adhesive velcro tape
If you remove a VELCRO® Brand self-adhesive hook and loop tape from a surface, adhesive residue may remain. We recommend using a cleaning product to remove the adhesive residue. Thicker sticky residue may require some firm polishing. We recommend that you test before use if the cleaning agent does not leave stains and always clean the surface with a cleaner after use.
