Polyester tapes

Single sided tapes with polyester backing for joining, protecting and covering up.

The combination of different polyester backings with different adhesive types leads to tapes with very specific properties and performances. It's possible to select polyester tapes in a targeted way in line with the performance ranges of the tape backings and adhesives.

The performance range of the adhesive types

With polyester tapes three basic adhesive types are used in addition to the specially developed adhesive constructions. These explain the significant performance differences between the tapes. Within the basic adhesive types, the adhesives can be further subdivided – for example by emphasising the high shear strength, temperature resistance or high immediate adhesion.

1. Acrylic adhesives

Acrylic adhesives can put be put under strain for a long period of time, in both indoor and outdoor applications. 
The performance profile of acrylics is:

• Excellent final adhesive strength 
• Very good resistance to chemicals and solvents 
• Excellent UV and ageing resistance 
• Temperature resistance to +150°C, briefly up to +180°C 

2. Silicone adhesives

Silicone adhesives show their strength at high temperatures, offer very good shear strength and even adhere to glue repellent, siliconised surfaces.
The performance profile of silicones is:

• Good direct adhesion 
• Very good resistance to chemicals and solvents 
• Very good internal strength (removal without adhesive residues when masking for a short time) 
• Excellent ageing resistance 
• Resistant to very high temperatures 

3. Adhesives based on natural and synthetic rubber are suitable for general applications.

The performance profile of the naturals and synthetics is:

• Very good immediate adhesion 
• Good adhesion to various surfaces, also to difficult plastics such as PE and PP 
• Resistant to ageing, solvents and chemicals 
• Temperature resistance to +90°C
