Fiberglass tapes

Fiberglass tape features a reinforced fiberglass or woven backing, making it highly resistant to tensile stress, tearing and point loads. This makes fiberglass tape ideal for industrial and technical applications where reliability is essential. Would you like to learn more about the applications and benefits of fiberglass tape? What type of tapes are we talking about?

Fiberglass tape is an industrial reinforced tape with a backing that contains embedded fiberglass filaments. These tapes are used in applications where high tensile strength, wear resistance and reliability are required.

Fiberglass tape is sometimes confused with drywall joint tape or wallpaper tape from the DIY market, typically used for plaster and drywall work. These products are outside the Tapir Tapes assortment. We only supply fiberglass tapes for professional and industrial applications.

High-performance tape for heavy loads

Thanks to the fiberglass reinforcement, this tape is resistant to tearing, puncturing and point loads. In many cases, fiberglass tape also offers good temperature resistance, making it suitable for technical and industrial environments.

Typical applications include:

  • Bundling and securing heavy materials

  • Reinforcing packaging and loads

  • Transport securing

  • Temporary or permanent industrial assembly

Lengthwise reinforced or cross reinforced

Fiberglass tapes are available with different reinforcement structures. With lengthwise reinforced tapes, the fiberglass filaments run in one direction, resulting in extremely high tensile strength along the length of the tape.

Cross reinforced tapes contain fiberglass filaments in multiple directions. These tapes are often easier to tear by hand and provide balanced strength in both the length and width directions.

Mesh structure and weave density

With cross reinforced fiberglass tapes, the reinforcement is often described by its mesh structure. This indicates how many fiberglass filaments are woven into the backing per surface area.

  • A higher mesh value means more filaments per cm²

  • More filaments result in higher mechanical strength

  • The right mesh depends on the specific application

Tensile strength and elongation at break

A key characteristic of fiberglass tape is its low elongation at break combined with very high tensile strength. This makes it ideal for applications where deformation is undesirable and a stable, firm bond is required.
