Masking tape for professional use

Masking tape is essential in construction, painting, automotive and industrial production. Thanks to a balanced adhesion level, good tear resistance and clean removal, it ensures sharp, professional results without damaging the surface.

Applications of masking tape

Masking tape is widely used for:

  • Painting applications – Masking frames, skirting boards, walls and doors for indoor and outdoor use

  • Automotive spray shops – Clean masking of car bodies during spray processes

  • Powder coating – Heat-resistant masking tapes remain secure during curing cycles

  • Lacquering & decoration – Sharp paint lines without adhesive residue or paint bleed

  • Light protection – Temporary masking during assembly or transport

Types of masking tape

Tapir Tapes offers a wide range of masking tapes, including:

  • Paper masking tape – For standard painting applications, mainly indoors

  • Gold masking tape – UV-resistant, suitable for outdoor use and longer masking periods

  • High-temperature masking tapes – Designed for powder coating and oven processes (approx. 150–200°C)

  • Precision masking tapes – For extremely sharp paint lines without bleed-through

Frequently asked questions about masking tape

What is the difference between masking tape and painter’s tape?

These terms are often used interchangeably. Both refer to low- to medium-adhesion tapes that are cleanly removable, usually with a paper or polymer backing.

Which masking tape leaves no adhesive residue?

Use tapes specifically designed for clean removal, such as tesa precision or 3M 2090. Always observe the maximum application time.

Which masking tape is suitable for outdoor use?

Choose UV- and weather-resistant tapes, such as Gold masking tape or plastic-backed tapes. Products like 3M 244 Professional Gold and 3M 2090 Long Mask perform well outdoors.

Can masking tape be used for powder coating?

Not all masking tapes are heat resistant. For powder coating, use high-temperature masking tapes, often with polyester or fiberglass backings.

What is the maximum temperature masking tape can withstand?

Standard painter’s tapes are usually suitable up to 60°C. High-temperature masking tapes can withstand approximately 160–200°C, depending on the product.
