Powder-coated (process) tape

Powder coating tapes are designed for applications where tapes are exposed to high oven temperatures during the powder coating process. These tapes allow bonding or masking before coating while maintaining adhesion throughout the entire curing cycle. In addition, certain tapes can be removed cleanly after powder coating, ensuring specific areas remain free of coating. Would you like to learn more about the applications and benefits of powder coating tapes? Powder coating tapes for bonding and masking

Powder-coated materials typically have low surface energy, making them difficult to bond using traditional fastening methods. Specially developed powder coating tapes provide a reliable alternative, both for bonding before powder coating and for temporary masking during the coating process.

These tapes are resistant to high oven temperatures and maintain their adhesion throughout the full powder coating cycle.

Bonding to powder-coated surfaces

For structural bonding on powder-coated substrates, VHB tapes are often used. These tapes can flow into the micro-roughness of the coating surface, creating a strong and durable bond without the need for drilling or welding.

This results in a clean finish of the final product while reducing assembly time and tooling requirements.

Advantages of tape in powder coating applications

Using powder coating tapes offers several advantages:

  • Strong structural bonding on powder-coated surfaces

  • In many cases no sanding or priming required

  • Clean, invisible (“blind”) bonding

  • Reduced risk of corrosion

  • Suitable for indoor and outdoor applications

  • Water-resistant and UV-resistant sealing

Additionally, there are masking tapes that can be removed cleanly after the powder coating process, ensuring certain areas remain free of coating. This is ideal when sealants, rubber components or other materials need to be applied afterward.
