UV resistant tapes

UV-resistant tapes maintain their adhesion when exposed to sunlight and weathering, making them suitable for durable outdoor applications. These tapes are often equipped with an acrylic adhesive layer. Would you like to learn more about the applications and benefits of UV-resistant tapes?  Read more below the product listing.

UV-resistant tapes for durable outdoor applications

UV-resistant tapes are used when a tape is exposed to sunlight, weathering and temperature fluctuations over an extended period. These tapes retain their adhesion better than standard tapes and are suitable for outdoor mounting, marking, sealing and protection.

In many cases, UV-resistant tapes are equipped with an acrylic adhesive, due to its excellent ageing and UV resistance. For applications where the tape is used temporarily and needs to be removed cleanly afterwards, tapes with a rubber adhesive are sometimes used, offering (limited) UV resistance.

What is the difference between acrylic and rubber adhesives?

The choice of adhesive system determines long-term performance:

  • Acrylic: strong ultimate adhesion, UV and ageing resistant, suitable for long-term use
  • (Modified) acrylic: improved adhesion on low surface energy materials such as PE and PP, with good UV resistance
  • Rubber (hot melt / natural rubber): very high initial tack and often easier to remove, but generally less suitable for long-term UV exposure

Tapir Tapes is happy to advise which adhesive system best suits your substrate, required service life and application process.

Key properties of UV-resistant tapes

Depending on the application, UV-resistant tapes must meet several requirements:

Ageing resistance
The tape retains its adhesion and properties over time when exposed to UV radiation, heat and oxygen.

Weather resistance
Resistant to moisture, temperature fluctuations, contamination and prolonged outdoor exposure.

Solvent and chemical resistance
Suitable for environments where oils, greases or cleaning agents are present.

Plasticiser resistance
Important when applied to flexible plastics where plasticisers may migrate into the adhesive layer.

Temperature resistance
Both short-term and long-term exposure can be critical for performance and removability.
