Is Duct, Duck or Linen tape the same as "Gaffa" tape?
Not quite, the construction is broadly the same, it is also tearable by hand very strong etc, the difference is in the coating that is used, Gaffe tape comes from the word "Gaffer" someone who works in the theater , on stage or studio is responsible for the light and sound/electricity is also often called the gaffer.
Nichiban is a very strong and well-known brand in the Gaffa tape they have used a coating for this tape that does not reflect and that has of course been a very welcome invention at these locations.
In addition, these tapes have an adhesive layer that can be removed cleanly. If you use duck tape, there is a good chance that the adhesive layer will remain on the cables, which is not desirable in that world.
